What is colour vision deficiency
Color blindness occurs when you are unable to see colors in a normal way. It is also known as color deficiency. Color blindness often happens when someone cannot distinguish between certain colors. This usually happens between greens and reds, and occasionally blues. There are different degrees of color blindness.
Some people with mild color deficiencies can see colors normally in good light but have difficulty in dim light. Others cannot distinguish certain colors in any light. The most severe form of color blindness, in which everything is seen in shades of gray, is uncommon.
Different types of color blindness cause problems seeing different colors.
Difficulties face by colour blind people
Color differences are incredibly important with data visualization e.g., graphs and pie charts. colors that have a low contrast ratio can make charts difficult to interpret for color blind users. Use of patterns and textures can make it easy for users to differentiate different segments.
Here’s what it would look like if you labeled each segment instead of using patterns,Text labels to segment scan make them even easier to understand.
The screenshot below shows how difficult it is for colourblind user distinguish between colours without proper text labels.
